Detailing: The beauty of cinema

Cinema, the art that brings together people apart from their differences. The concept of entertainment that keeps them hooked to the chairs they sit. But it is not just a factor of entertainment now. Cinema has gone beyond limits that the frames of now, talk, scenes of a few seconds give out enough ideas making narrations and dialogues look old school, the indulgence of creativity has took storytelling to a whole new level.

'96 is a South Indian movie that depicts the love of two tethered souls who couldn't be together because of the ways of the world. If one pays close attention to the song 'kathale' from the movie, they could hear the voice of a whale and the chirping of a bird, idealizing the fact that they were in love and are destined to live apart, cross-referencing the lead characters of the movie.

It isn't just creativity that plays a huge role in the field of filmmaking, detailing is just another factor which brings in huge turns in the industry of cinema.

The radio broadcast played in the cliffhanger scene of the new spiderman movie takes this to a whole new level. In the climax, the radio mutters the muffled sound of J.Jonah Jameson at earth 42,

"The curfew is being extended as the so called Sinister Six cartels battle for control over the streets, is nobody gonna try and stop them."

This played in the background is one hell of a detail that strikes high if you know what I mean.

A much better yet unnoticed or forgotten detail is from the movie 'Forrest Gump', in the movie, the protagonist who has autistic traits is asked to play table tennis at one point of his life, followed by a simple direction,

"The important part is to never take your eye off the ball"

That being said, Gump does what his instructor told him and as the movie continues we see him become unbeatable in his country, he even goes defeating champions across continents becoming the best among the world. But as the movie ends we see him beat by his own son, as for now his son is the only important one he could keep his eyes on.

Details… such beautiful details that make one sink a step deeper into the art of cinema. These being just a few which I've heard and found tells me that there is more to cinema than what one could think of and there are brighter ideas which are yet to be brought into the frames of a camera.

Not so fun fact: All these movies talk about souls who wished to be together.

  3. True, detailing makes movies more expressive and authentic. Especially if the movie focuses on a specific subject ―it shows that the movie is well researched.

  4. I only focused on detailing as a storyteller/writer. But reading this post made me think it's even tougher to execute when visual content is considered. Well written blog!!

    1. Thank you it means a lot to me, details aren't always meant to be seen, the beauty appears when we see it while not looking for it.
